SENTEO Student Response System

I have had a classroom set of the SENTEO student response system from Smart Technologies in my room since the start of the year. I have found working with these that they really hold all the students accountable. Many of the uses I have are during a discussion and I can quickly formulate a question to see who is following along. With the students signed in, I can check to see who is answering and who is answering correctly. This means that instead of getting one response from a student who raises their hand I get a response from all my students. This helps most of my students stay focussed. I have found the system to be easy to work with and they help give valuable real time feedback. I recommend them to everyone.

I've never used the Senteo, but I've been using the Qwizdom Student Response System for years and absolutely love it! My students always pay attention and participate when we're using them. Now I use the ReadySet curriculum with the clickers to make preparing for state tests more fun, plus I know exactly how they're all doing on each standard. Their favorite is the car racing game. Everyday my students walk into class and ask "are we going to play Qwizdom today Mrs Maldonado?"

Quizdom was the system that I originally wanted, but was told about the Senteo. I liked the Quizdom units, they seemed easy to use and had good software. What I like about the Senteos is that they tie directly into the Smart Notebook program that runs the Smartboard. All very smoothly. Whatever you use as long as the students are engaged and learning that is the key.

I would like to get a Smartboard and the senteos units for my classroom, since I have used Activboard/Activotes in the past and loved them. May I ask, how much did the Senteos units cost and do you know of any technology grants for Smartboards? My school does not have a lot of technology money, and I'm not able to pull many strings yet since I'm new!

My school paid about $2000 for a set of 30 Senteos. I think that they are completely worth it. As far as grant money goes, I do not know of any off the top of my head. I think they have some grant information at www.smarttech.com That is the Smartboard website. I am luck to work in a district with some technology funding.

I forgot to mention a wonderful website for information on interactive whiteboards. www.pdtogo.com This website has podcasts by teachers for teachers about whiteboards and other digital tools to use in your classroom. The hosts are Ben Hazzard and Joan Badger. They are from Canada and their podcast is very good. They are very entertaining and share many great websites and uses for your Smartboard.

Good Luck
